The ADM8696/ADM8697 supervisory circuits provide a complete single-chip solution for power supply monitoring and battery control functions in microprocessor systems. These functions include μP reset, backup battery switching, watchdog timer, CMOS RAM write protection, and power-fail warning.

The ADM8696/ADM8697 are available in 16-pin DIP and small outline packages (including TSSOP) and provide the following features:

1. Reset output under power-up, power-down, and undervoltage conditions. The reset voltage threshold is adjustable via an external resistor divider. The reset output remains functional with VCC as low as 1 V.

2. Reset pulse output if the optional watchdog timer is not toggled within the specified time period.

3. Separate watchdog timeout and low-line status outputs.

4. Adjustable reset and watchdog timeout periods.

5. 1.3 V threshold detector for power-fail warning, low battery detection, or monitoring power supplies other than VCC.

6. Battery backup switching for CMOS RAM, CMOS microprocessors, or other low-power logic (ADM8696).

7. Write protection for CMOS RAM or EEPROM (ADM8697).

The ADM8696/ADM8697 are fabricated using an advanced Epitaxial CMOS process, combining low power consumption (0.7 mW), extremely fast Chip Enable gating (2 ns), and high reliability. Reset assertion is guaranteed with VCC as low as 1 V. In addition, the power switching circuit is designed to minimize voltage drop, allowing output current drive up to 100 mA without an external pass transistor.
